Local Government reorganisation (26-03-25)Central government has decreed that all parts of England shall become served by Unitary Authorities. In our area this will be the biggest change in local government since 1974 when Hinckley Urban District Council was merged with Market Bosworth Rural District Council.
The timetable requires interim plans to be submitted by 21 March, and full proposals by 28 November 2025. So far three different interim plans have been submitted.
Shadow elections for the new unitary authorities and mayors are due to take place in May 2027, to be accompanied by a Strategic Authority Plan. Legislation to establish the new authorities is scheduled for April 2028.
