NewsBosworth Road - Speed and Signs (18-01-19)
Carlton Parish Council is concerned by the high speed of traffic entering the village on Bosworth Road. It appears that even those drivers who do slow down when entering the built-up area do not decelerate until they reach the 30 mph signs (See Report 2019-02).
The Parish Council also considers that the existing signage on Bosworth Road is poorly sited in that the 30 mph signs are within the built-up area and partly obscured, and the village nameplate is very close to the 30 mph signs. (See Report 2018-19).
The Parish Council intends to ask the Highway Authority to move the 30 mph signs 75m towards Market Bosworth, to install a 30 roundel and dragons teeth markings on the Bosworth side of the 30 mph signs, and to move the Carlton village nameplate to the Bosworth end of the dragons teeth markings.
The Parish Council considers that this package of measures will present drivers with a more coherent and clearly visible set of warning signs that they should slow down, and will extend the zone within which speed enforcement can take place. The Parish Council expects these measures to lead to a reduction in vehicle speeds within the built-up area.
It is important for the Parish Council to be able to show that this proposal is supported by the local residents, and a consultation has been delivered to every household in Bosworth Road, Carlton.
This project will not go forward unless the Parish Council can provide evidence of a high level of public support. If you live on Bosworth Road and support these proposals please be sure to return the consultation response form.
